Kea, Nestor notabilis, our cheeky, gregarious, parrot found mainly in South Island High Country. Endemic to New Zealand.
A source of great entertainment but also frustration to tourists because of their cheeky ways. Approaching very close to explore camera, sunglasses etc, but also quite capable of wrecking the outer trimmings of a car or motorbike parked up at a lookout.
I was very lucky when photographing these birds to have the young ones present also. No doubt being schooled up by the parent bird in the ways of harassing and beguiling New Zealand's tourists.
The painting has been composed from several photographs, fun to do, others planned for the future.
