The Provodnik's Daughter
I met this young lass whilst travelling across Russia on the Trans-Siberian train.
Her father was a Provodnik - one of many who took care of general maintenance, smooth flow of passengers and general behaviour on the carriages of the train.
I was captivated with her striking good looks and her character. She appeared to be mature beyond her years, no doubt due to spending time on the train.
I felt the portrait called for stronger colouring to bring out the characteristics of this young girl. The pastel is worked onto Colourfix Paper, leaving much of the colourfix showing in the background.
