Wharariki - the wild and beautiful western coastline just south of Farewell Spit, in the Kahurangi National Park
Access is by driving west from Puponga to the end of Wharariki Road, then a walk through farmland, down past windswept coastal forest and over dunes to the beach. Seals frequent the rocky pools to the right and caves add to the adventure.
My timing for this trip was to include sunset, with a painting in mind. Our efforts were well rewarded
